GDPR Policy & Data Removal

Dogs First is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This page explains how we handle your data and how you can exercise your rights, including requesting the removal of your personal information.

Who is the data controller?

Dogs First is the data controller responsible for your personal data. If you have any questions about how we process your data, please contact us at dogsfirst@yahoo.com.

What data do we collect?

We may collect and process the following personal data:

  • Name and contact details (email, phone number, address) provided through adoption applications, rehoming requests, contact forms, and donation forms

  • Information about your household and circumstances submitted as part of adoption or rehoming applications

  • Email addresses provided for our newsletter

  • Donation and payment information processed securely through Stripe

  • Technical data such as IP address, browser type, and browsing behaviour collected via cookies (with your consent)

Lawful basis for processing

We process your personal data on the following lawful bases:

  • Consent — for newsletter subscriptions and optional analytics/marketing cookies

  • Legitimate interests — for processing adoption applications, rehoming requests, and responding to enquiries

  • Contractual necessity — for processing donations via Stripe

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you

  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data

  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data (see below for how to make this request)

  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data

  • Right to data portability — request a machine-readable copy of your data

  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing

  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

How to request data removal

If you would like us to delete the personal data we hold about you, please send an email to:

dogsfirst@yahoo.com

Please include the following in your request:

  1. Your full name

  2. The email address(es) you used when interacting with Dogs First

  3. A description of what data you would like deleted (or state that you wish all data removed)

We will respond to your request within one calendar month, as required by UK GDPR. In some cases, we may need to verify your identity before processing the request. If we are unable to fully comply with your request (for example, due to a legal obligation to retain certain records), we will explain the reasons.

Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected. Adoption applications and rehoming requests are retained for a reasonable period to support ongoing animal welfare activities. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. Donation records may be retained as required by financial regulations.

Cookies

We use a cookie consent system that allows you to control which optional cookies are set. You can manage your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can contact the ICO through their website at https://ico.org.uk/ or by calling their helpline on 0303 123 1113.
