What happens when I ask Dogs First to rehome my dog? expand_more
As Dogs First is a foster-run charity, we cannot always readily take your dog into the rescue. If we cannot bring your dog in immediately, we ask that you continue looking after your dog whilst we actively find a suitable new home or foster home.
How long does the rehoming process take? expand_more
We ask that you allow Dogs First one month to arrange a foster home or find a suitable permanent home. During that time, we ask that you do not rehome your dog elsewhere whilst we work to find the right match.
Does my dog need to be neutered before rehoming? expand_more
Yes. Unless there are exceptional circumstances or vet advice to the contrary, dogs need to be neutered before being rehomed. If your dog is not neutered, we ask that you arrange this before the rehoming takes place. Spays can cost over £300 and castrations from £200 upwards.
Can Dogs First help if I am struggling but do not want to give up my dog? expand_more
Absolutely. There are many reasons why owners consider giving up their dogs, including financial concerns, illness, or behaviour problems. These issues do not necessarily mean you need to give up your dog. We can talk through your options and help with supplies through our dog food bank.
Will you judge me for needing to rehome my dog? expand_more
Never. At Dogs First, we understand that giving up your dog is a tough decision, but one that is sometimes out of your control. We are here to help, not to judge. If you decide it is best to find them a new home, we will ensure your dog finds the perfect new family.
